Reginald MorissPlot: Cogs of WarChallenge: 1: Wake Up Call
(1: Wake Up Call) - Your character is helping those who were injured in the First Breach. Or perhaps it is they who are injured and are being helped by another character! What a way to make new friends... How does this effect their opinion. Do they side with The Graveyard Machine? Are they angry with Aspik for calling down this blow? Do they want to get the heck out of dodge and go hide in the mountains somewhere?
------------------------------------------------------------It had been another meeting near the walls of the Aspick, talk of the latest shipment from the speakeasys from Morran's swamps and rumors of another rival criminal gang selling illegal magical objects in the backalleys. Reginald had since resigned to his fate as a blood contracted slave to Loreane, partaking in her mafia's criminal activities and killing in her name. He had lost all hope that anyone would care to free him, even losing faith in the goddess Urua who had so protected him in this world. They had begun the meeting as normal when the great bellow echoed from outside walls, then the booming voice from a mechanical titan in which was met with laughter from Aspick's leaders. The walls of the city crumbled, crushing beneath them cars and smaller buildings as the titian unleashed its fury. It was a magnificent thing to behold, such power and rage that amazed the broken man. Loreane's men pulled him out of the way into one of the buildings, chastising him for his stupidity and foolishness. The roar of the titian followed with more of the wall being toppled over and the metal screeching cries of thousands of machines that poured into the city. The building shook from the might of the titian, collapsing it from the inside and trapping Reginald and the others within. He awoke much later, busied and bleeding from his injuries as he crawled out from the ruble. He coughed and gagged from the dust and injuries sides, each breath becoming more painful to breathe. The stench of blood and dust choked the air as he looked to see a bloody hand poking out from underneath the ruble. He winced and snarled in disgust, and tried again to pull himself out of the ruble that pinned him. Outside people were screaming in terror, some shouting curses against the magical and blaming them for the attack."No..." Reginald growled "It is no fault but your OWN! YOU DAMNED CITY!"It was their fault in this, he knew it. Their hypocrisy that brought this upon them. It was under their laws and their justice that he had suffered, that he had to live as he did. It was their fault they condemned him for aiding Cheris, acting out of humanity for an intelligent being who would otherwise be slain under their jurisdiction. For his kindness he was hunted like a beast, forced to live on the run, forced to leave the woman he had grown to love. It this that forced him into a blood contract to give Cheris another chance at life so she would no longer be hunted. Here he was now, barely hanging on, left for dead by the witch to whom he had sold his soul. The collar still remained, as he pulled at it in anger, reminding him of that betrayal he had suffered for his act of humanity and his sacrifice.A machine beast had wandered into the ruins of the building with its brethren, searching for technology or survivors. It's strange magic detecting Reginald through the ruble and bodies of the dead. It wandered close, waiting to read more of survivor's aura.Reginald gasped, sharp pain stopping him from further pulling himself out. He looked back at the bloody hand, glaring at it and muttering a few curses. The screams continued, but he no longer cared. And why should he? Why should he defend the very city that partakes in horrible crimes and condemns others for doing the same?"Aspick can go to hell," he saidThe machine beast entered the room, its blank expression contrasting the man's surprised one. It walked closer to him, its eyes glowing in an unnatural green light. He did not pull away from the beast's gaze, as the vines covering its body also glowed."A vassal of the forest god..." Reginald whispered, in both realization and reverence
